Tambourine is a 21st Century updating of the French Baroque tambourin, a piece featuring repeated drumming rhythms. It is based on two themes, a jaunty fife tune heard soon after the initial quiet drum beats, and a more expansive and lyrical melody that eventually carries the work to its conclusion on the full organ.

Such dances usually had a piped melody over a drone bass (tabor), and so does this piece. The drone is in the pedal (and occasionally the left hand) and the melody in the right. Fun and different, this music is suitable for general worship themes and recitals.
