A reflective look back on the original Christmas from the vantage point of a bitter winter, the text comes from the hymn "The Winter Night" (1917) by Louis Fitzgerald Benson. When the composer began it, he did not realize that setting the lyrics "For all good mothers, some on earth, and some with Thine in heav'n" would be contemporaneous with his own mother's death.
