Reviews | Elgar's opus 70 is an undeservedly neglected gem...While some inner string parts are occasionally dropped out of necessity, the transcription is remarkably faithful to the original, including painstaking renderings of the composer's original articulation and dynamic markings with very few exceptions. The piece is a must-have for those who have a harpist at their disposal or who are in need of a brief, brooding piece, perhaps as part of a memorial service or concert. Consider it a worthy alternative to Samuel Barber's ubiquitous Adagio. |

Elgar's Sospiri ("sighs") was originally a companion piece to Salut d'amour until he realized he was writing something much more intense and emotional. Here transcribed for organ and harp (or organ solo by itself), this Adagio movement retains its lovely brooding quality. Part of our Nigel Potts Transcription Series, this classic is suitable for recitals and perhaps a memorial service. Optional Harp part included.
