Biography

Michael John Trotta is one of the most "exciting and prominent new composers of choral music," a sought-after conductor, and dynamic clinician. He brings an "intimate knowledge of the human voice," a "rare sensitivity to the capabilities of a choral ensemble," and years of experience as an inspiring educator to thousands of singers each year. His award-winning commissions are frequently performed at Carnegie Hall, at national conventions (ACDA, NAfME, AGO, TMEA), and his recordings are broadcast worldwide.

Prior to receiving his Doctorate from Louisiana State University, Trotta served as a music educator for high school, middle school, and elementary school students and served as Director of Music for numerous churches in the Philadelphia area. Trotta has served on the music faculty of Oklahoma State University, Louisiana State University, Rowan University, and most recently as Director of Choral Studies at Virginia Wesleyan College. He frequently works as a composer-in-residence with various ensembles throughout the country.

Trotta’s compositions, are frequently named "Editor’s Choice" by J. W. Pepper and his work as a conductor has been heralded as "An Outstanding Example" by ChoralNet. He has been recognized by ASCAP for making significant contributions in the area of concert music. As a composer he regularly collaborates with choirs of all ages from professional and community choirs to high school and collegiate students. Dr. Trotta lives in New York City with his wife Rachel.
