Charles Hogan

Charles Hogan, D.M.A., hailed by Classical Voice North Carolina for his "breathtaking" performances and Voix des Artes as "sensitive but red-blooded," enjoys a diverse career as a pianist, organist, choirmaster, professor, composer, collaborator, and conductor. Though raised a Baptist in rural West Virginia, he fell in love with the Episcopal Church in her liturgy and music while in college at the University of Kentucky. He has been active in the Royal School of Church Music in America, managing its Carolina Course for Girls and Adults and the Carolina Organ Institute. His compositions have been sung throughout North America and abroad. As the choirmaster at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, he recorded the album "O Still Small Voice of Calm," which the American Record Guide proclaims "dazzles us" and "makes time stand still." Although a staunch traditionalist, Hogan consistently looks to the liturgy as a springboard of creativity, experimenting with environmental and musical possibilities while maintaining a sense of integrity for the Prayer Book. His experiences have equipped him with a host of ideas, some philosophical and others practical, which can be found in this book. He currently resides in North Carolina with his wife Dr. Hallie Coppedge and has one daughter, Tess Elizabeth.
