Developing
from his early experience as a chorister at King's College
and as a choral scholar at Trinity College Cambridge, Jonathan
Willcocks's career has embraced a broad spectrum
of composition with works published and widely performed
across the world. He also works extensively as a choral and
orchestra conductor.
Jonathan's
compositions encompass large-scale orchestral scores and
chamber music, in addition to many choral works. There are
now many recordings of his music, including two CDs issued
by Priory Records devoted entirely to his choral music (PRCD
668 and 770) and two Prime Music CDs of his works for children's
choirs. The current season includes first performances of
several new choral works in UK and USA, and three major commissions
will appear in the next eighteen months.
He
is currently conductor and musical director of the Portsmouth
Choral Union, the Chichester Singers and the professional
chamber orchestra Southern Pro Musica, and freelance conducting
engagements have taken him to many parts of the world including
USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore and most of the European
countries as well as across the United Kingdom. In the coming
season he will be returning to USA and Canada on several
occasions to conduct concerts at music festivals, including
further appearances in Carnegie Hall in New York.
He
has continued an active involvement in music education, since
1989 as Director of the Junior Academy, Royal Academy of
Music in London.
