Shaw
Timothy
Shaw is a native of New Hampshire who holds degrees from
Temple University (M.Mus. in Composition) and Philadelphia Biblical
University (B.Mus. in Composition, B.S. in Biblical Studies).
He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Theory & History
at the University of Connecticut. His research focuses primarily
on the music of Olivier Messiaen, and he has also presented papers
on American shape-note hymnody at national music conferences.
He
has held positions as Music Director and Organist in several churches
throughout the northeast, serving in Independent, Methodist, Presbyterian,
and Lutheran congregations. Presently, he is the interim Music
Director at the Presbyterian Church of Coventry, Connecticut.
He
has composed extensively for the church, and his sacred octavos
now appear in the catalogs of Augsburg Fortress, Choristers Guild,
Concordia, Fred Bock, MorningStar Music, and Neil A. Kjos music
companies. Portfolios of his hymn settings for both piano and
organ are published by Augsburg Fortress, as are many of his alternate
accompaniments of hymns for the piano.
An
active composer, he regularly fulfills commissions, including
those for David Kim (Philadelphia Orchestra concertmaster), the
Turtleledge Woodwind Trio (Storrs, CT), and the Presbyterian Church
of Coventry, among others. His music has been recorded by violinist
David Kim and the duo piano team of Samuel Hsu and Paul S. Jones.
