Anna
Jacobs (b. 1980) is currently undertaking a Master of Music
degree at the Indiana University School of Music, majoring
in composition under Professor Sven-David Sandström. She
graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University
of Sydney in 2002 with First Class Honours and the Sarah Theresa
Makinson Prize for Musical Composition. Other awards include
a Sydney Moss Scholarship and the Ignaz Friedman Memorial Prize,
and her Mass secured her a place as a 2004 Artist in Residence
at Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s Bundanon.
Anna’s musical language is eclectic and draws on influences as diverse
as pop, musical theatre and liturgical music. Her compositions have been performed
throughout the USA and Australia, and she has received commissions from such
ensembles as the Australian Youth Orchestra and Theatre of Image, the Sydneian
Bach Choir, and Coro Innominata. A current voice student of Patricia Wise,
she has also worked professionally as a soprano, specializing in early, contemporary
classical, and Jewish liturgical music.
Anna is an Associate Composer with the Australian Music Centre. Further information
