Rick
Deasley
Rick
Deasley was born in Manchester,
England, growing up there, in Canada, and in the United
States. He is currently Director of Worship Life
and Organist at Atonement
Lutheran Church, Overland Park,
Kansas, (a suburb of Kansas City), where he plays a 55-rank
Martin Ott pipe organ.
Rick
served as Director of Worship Arts/Organist at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Mission, KS (2001-2005), Music Director & Organist
at Hope Lutheran Church & School, Shawnee, KS (1991-2001)
and as Organist/Choirmaster at Children's Memorial Lutheran
Church, Kansas City, MO (1986-1991).
He
holds a degree in music composition from the University of
Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, where he studied
organ with John Ditto and John Obetz and composition with Gerald
Kemner. He is published by several church music publishers.
Rick
is a past dean of the Greater Kansas City chapter of the American
Guild of Organists (1996-97), was Associate Director of the
American Institute of Musicology (1993-2001), and served as
managing editor of Sacred Music News & Review from
1997-2001. Since 1993, he has traveled extensively to church
music conferences across the United States, including three
National Conventions of the AGO, presenting seminars on church
music software. He is recognized for his expertise with the Finale music
notation software and multimedia music databases.
